Your Role:

Within a few months of joining Gen Re you will participate in our trainee program, currently planned to start in the second quarter of 2017. We provide an international trainee program, which is based on a high level of empowerment within an exceedingly productive environment, combining on the job training with intensive classroom phases. There may also be the opportunity of a several week assignment in another location or business environment. During the comprehensive program you will become familiar with all relevant aspects of our unit Life/Health International. This comprises in particular knowledge about reinsurance standards and guidelines, risk management, biometric products, tools and, of course, clients. Training also covers interpersonal skills as well as client and business development. This program is the ideal opportunity to build an excellent network with your international peers participating in the program and a broad variety of Life/Health International experts at an early stage in your career.

Job Description:

As a Research Actuary you will be the centralized contact for our research efforts in Japan, Korea and Taiwan. The position includes a broad range of tasks:

  • Follow the latest international developments in products covering biometric risks such as health, critical illness, life and long term care
  • Partner with our global Research & Development department and with our local account managers to develop innovative product concepts for our primary insurance clients
  • Develop tailored solutions for both product design and pricing, based on evaluation of risks associated with the product elements
  • Support the Regional Chief Actuary in the development of actuarial bases and pricing tools of our biometric products
  • Work in an interdisciplinary team of actuaries, account managers, and underwriting and claims managers.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Excellent university degree in mathematics, statistics or actuarial science. However for the right person a different background may also be taken into consideration
  • Willingness to commence actuarial qualification; candidates who have already started writing actuarial exams will have an advantage
  • Strong interest in the economic interrelations of insurance and reinsurance
  • Prior work experience or internship in insurance or reinsurance would be advantageous
  • Interest in working in an international environment
  • Very good familiarity with MS Office, especially Excel, and ideally in data analysis tools
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work self-reliantly
  • Capacity to work effectively in a team environment with a focus on the client
  • High degree of energy and creativity
  • Strong communication and coordination capabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Very good English (spoken and written) and very good knowledge of at least one other language, ideally Mandarin Chinese, Japanese or Korean.
